Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have signed four players this summer, Scott Bain, Odsonne Edouard, Daniel Arzani and Emilio Izaguirre.
It has been a difficult summer on and off the pitch for Celtic.
The reigning Scottish Premiership champions have missed out on a number of top targets including John McGinn and Cristiano Piccini while being knocked out of the Champions League at the qualification stage by AEK Athens.
And Brendan Rodgers has vented his frustration on a number of occasions about Celtic’s perceived lack of quality investment.
“I just wanted quality. We weren’t needing a huge overhaul here this summer,” the Northern Irishman said in quotes reported by the Scottish Sun.
Now, Celtic have signed three players this summer not counting the £9 million striker Odsonne Edouard, who was at Parkhead last season during a loan from PSG.
But the three newcomers arguably fail to add quality to Celtic’s starting XI, merely adding options on the bench. Daniel Arzani, the 19-year-old Australian wonderkid signed on loan from Manchester City, already has a reputation as an impact sub.
Emilio Izaguirre, who returned to Celtic after one year in Saudi Arabia, will be an experienced back-up to Kieran Tierney while Scott Bain (below) already appears to be behind Craig Gordon in the pecking order.
So maybe this is the problem. Celtic have lost Patrick Roberts and Stuart Armstrong and failed to sign players of equal quality while Dedryck Boyata could go to.
