Wolverhampton Wanderers were heavily tipped to bring Andre Silva to the Premier League but he is now on loan at Sevilla from AC Milan.
If there is one position that Wolverhampton Wanderers should already be looking to strengthen in January, it is centre forward.
Raul Jimenez has enjoyed a positive start to life at Molineux since arriving on loan from Benfica, but the fact that Leo Bonatini remains Wolves’ second choice striker is a worry. The Brazilian has scored once in his last 31 games; a run stretching back to December 2017.
If only Wolves had succeeded in bringing Andre Silva to the Black Country.
The Portuguese striker had been linked with a shock move to Molineux since the start of 2018; his relationship with super-agent Jorge Mendes seemingly making a switch to Wolves a genuine possibility.
The Sun (29 May, page 50) claimed that Wolves were even ready to pay a club-record £27 million for Silva, who had struggled to make an impact since swapping Porto for AC Milan in the summer of 2017.
But the 22-year-old joined Sevilla on loan instead. And, after a mixed start in Andalusia, Silva showed Wolves what they are missing on Wednesday. It was he who inspired Sevilla to a famous 3-0 win against Champions of Europe Real Madrid, scoring a brace with two trademark poacher’s finishes.
Silva humiliated Madrid just a day after Bonatini toiled against Leicester. You can imagine why Wolves fans could be wondering what might have been.
