Aberdeen midfielder Kenny McLean is a target of Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha – but Norwich City’s Graham Dorrans is on the verge instead.
Aberdeen already have a grudge to bear with Rangers after they lured their captain, Ryan Jack, to Ibrox this summer.
Therefore, it was always distinctly unlikely that The Dons, who finished nine points ahead of Pedro Caixinha’s side last season, were going to be receptive to any bids for prized asset Kenny McLean this summer – especially when Rangers put just £300,000 on the table, as reported by the Press and Journal.
The 25-year-old may only have a year left on his contract at Pittodrie but there’s an argument to be made that he was the best player in the Scottish Premiership outside of Celtic last season.

Furthermore, with Aberdeen already bidding farewell to Jack and star winger Jonny Hayes, who joined the Champions earlier this month, manager Derek McInnes has unsurprisingly made clear that he will do everything in his power to keep hold of McLean.
Yet, Rangers can certainly soften the blow of a rejected bid by finally getting a deal for Graham Dorrans over the line. According to the Scottish Sun, Norwich City have agreed to sell the 30-year-old to The Gers after three failed bids and weeks of speculation.
Dorrans, a boyhood Rangers fan, will be the club’s eighth summer signing already for a fee of £1.3 million, plus various add-ons.
Therefore, it appears that Rangers have no real need for McLean too. Dorrans will strengthen a midfield already enhanced by the additions Jack and Mexican international Carlos Pena, not to mention Niko Kranjcar’s long-awaited return from injury.
McLean would be an excellent signing but, right now, Rangers appear to have reinforced their midfield sufficiently.
