Coventry City’s Sam McCallum is being linked with Championship quartet Forest, Leeds United, West Brom and Huddersfield Town.

Sam McCallum has ‘got everything you want’ from a left-back according to former Coventry City U23 coach Simon Farndon, amid claims that Leeds United, Nottingham Forest West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing one of League One’s rising stars.

The Canterbury-born defender is right at the start of his tale as a professional footballer but the sky is the limit for a player who has made his name in sky blue.

McCallum has established himself as a key first-team player at Coventry with Mark Robins’ side sitting just four points adrift of league leaders Ipswich Town after an impressive start to the season.

According to Coventry Live, Leeds are interested in signing another of the Football League’s rising stars, perhaps as cover for the perennially injured Barry Douglas, while West Brom, Forest and Huddersfield Town are interested too, so say the Express and Star.

And, speaking to Coventry Live, Farndon’s comments suggest that McCallum would have few problems adapting to life in the Championship given his vast potential.

“He’s got the lot. He’s literally got everything you want to tick off on a left-back,” Farndon said of a teenager who was playing for non-league Herne Bay just a year ago.

“He’s highly intelligent so he takes information on board and everything you ask him to do he does to the best of his ability. And if he doesn’t know what it is he asks questions, and is not afraid to ask questions.

“It’s an exciting time so let’s see what he does in his career. After the first eight weeks at the club you could see that he’s going to be a player.”

Coventry have already given the world James Maddison, Callum Wilson, Tom Bayliss and Cyrus Christie and there’s no doubt McCallum has the raw talent to follow in their footsteps.

But, as Robins said last week, anyone who wants to sign the highly-rated full-back will have to pay a ‘hell of a lot of money’.
