Former Plymouth Argyle forward Ladapo will be playing against Jack Ross’s Sunderland in League One next season.

So that’s one gone.
Earlier this month, the Northern Echo reported that Sunderland had narrowed their striker search down to a trio of preferred options; Doncaster Rovers’s John Marquis, Ayr United’s Lawrence Shankland and Plymouth Argyle’s Freddie Ladapo.
And considering that Ladapo would cost £500,000 less than Marquis, and has proven himself in League One unlike Shankland, the latter was perhaps the best of the three.
The former Crystal Palace youngster fired home 18 goals in a relegated Plymouth side last season after all. So just imagine how prolific he could be when playing alongside Aiden McGeady, Lynden Gooch and co at the Stadium of Light.

But, in a twist that has Sunderland fans everywhere wondering what has gone wrong, Ladapo will be playing against Jack Ross’s side next season instead. As reported by the Yorkshire Post, he has joined third-tier rivals Rotherham United instead for just £500,000.
This time last year, Sunderland were beaten to the signature of Lyle Taylor by Charlton Athletic and they didn’t have to wait long for their mistake to be brutally exposed.
Taylor plundered 25 goals in all competitions, starring for an Addicks side who beat Sunderland in the play-off final at Wembley. So the fans will be praying that history doesn’t repeat itself.
