Rangers signed Finland international midfielder Glen Kamara from Scottish Premiership rivals Dundee during the January transfer window.

Rangers have signed a ‘class act’ in Glen Kamara, the midfielder’s former Dundee manager Neil McCann told the BBC.

The Finland international was hugely impressive for the Dark Blues after arriving from Arsenal at the start of the 2017/18 season, so much so that Rangers decided to bring him to Ibrox last month.

They initially agreed to sign him when his contract expired at the end of the campaign but decided to move the deal forward by five months on transfer deadline day.

So far, Kamara has not made an appearance for Steven Gerrard’s side but McCann, who was sacked by Dundee in October, has predicted a bright future for the 23-year-old at Ibrox.

“He’s a real star in the making. He’s still learning the game but I just think he’s a terrific footballer. He moves so well and Rangers are getting a class act,” said McCann, who played for Rangers himself between 1998 and 2003.

“He’s not an enforcer. Ross McCrorie and Ryan Jack are more physical. But, for me, he’s a better footballer than both. When I look back at my successful time at Rangers, we had Barry Ferguson controlling the tempo.

“He wasn’t overly physical but he would cover ground so quickly and snuff out danger, change direction, pick a pass. That’s Kamara.”

Kamara’s composed, intelligent style of play should suit a Rangers side who tend to control possession under Steven Gerrard.

Although he faces a tough challenge forcing his way into the starting XI given that the Liverpool legend can also choose from McCrorie, Jack, Scott Arfield and Lassana Coulibaly with Graham Dorrans yet to return from injury.
