Newly promoted SPAL want to sign Leeds United outcast Giuseppe Bellusci this summer as well as goalkeeper Marco Silvestri

Don’t ask us how but it appears that Giuseppe Bellusci did enough during his season-long loan at Empoli to entice interest from four, yes four, Serie A sides this summer.

That is despite the fact that the Leeds United-owned centre-back picked up a league leading 15 bookings in the Italian top flight last season.

Oh, and there is the small matter of Empoli suffering relegation in truly embarrassing circumstances, losing four of their last five games to be overtaken by a Crotone side who looked dead and throughout the entire campaign on the final day of the season.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Bellusci would have turned his loan deal into a permanent transfer if the Tuscan side had retained their Serie A status. Needless to say, the 27-year-old is on the lookout for a new club this summer.

After all, there is no chance Leeds want the madcap centre-back anywhere near Elland Road.

Fortunately, however, there does not appear to be a shortage of suitors. Bologna, managed by former Italy legend Roberto Donadoni, have been heavily linked in recent weeks and Calciomercato report that they are joined by Chievo Verona, as well as promoted duo Benevento and SPAL.

Now, Leeds supporters should be familiar with the latter. Mirko Antenucci, the Italian forward released by The Whites last summer, netted 18 goals in Serie B to fire them to promotion last season, five years after their very existence was threatened by bankruptcy.

Furthermore, Gianluca Di Marzio claims that SPAL are also interested in rescuing another of Leeds’ Italian outcasts – goalkeeper Marco Silvestri.

Therefore, Bellusci could feel right at home in the Renaissance wonderland that is the city of Ferrera.
