Jack Ross’s Sunderland beat Gillingham 4-2 at the Stadium of Light to get their League One campaign back on track on Tuesday night.

Gillingham were full of praise for Sunderland despite falling to a frustrating 4-2 defeat at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night.
The Black Cats won for just the second time in their last eight League One games in midweek. Will Grigg scored his first goal for the club since his £4 million January move from Wigan Athletic while Lee Cattermole, Tom Flanagan and Aiden McGeady were also on target.
The result was something of a frustrating one for Gillingham, however, who played well and troubled the scoreboard twice themselves only to go down to a dispiriting defeat.

It is not often the Gills fans get to travel to a football mad city like this, with one of the biggest stadiums in the English game. There were over 28,000 in attendance at the Stadium of Light, the 15th biggest crowd Gillingham have ever played in front of.
And it seems the Kent-based club enjoyed their time on Wearside. Gracious in defeat, Gillingham have paid tribute to Sunderland on Twitter, adding to the Black Cats’ reputation as a family club aiming to pull itself up from the floor.
