Centre-back Fabio Cardoso has been heavily tipped to leave Scottish Premiership giants Rangers after just one year at Ibrox.

It does not look good for Fabio Cardoso at Rangers.

It had been expected until very recently that the Portuguese centre-back would be given a clean slate at Ibrox under Steven Gerrard, despite a difficult debut season in Scottish football following his £1.3 million move from Vitoria Setubal last summer.

But reports in the Glasgow Evening Times on Friday suggested that Rangers could instead look to cash in on Cardoso after Gerrard’s centre-back options were strengthened by deals for Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson.

And Rangers have now perhaps offered the biggest hint yet that Cardoso will not be plying his trade at Ibrox by the time next season kicks off.

As reported by the Daily Star, Cardoso is one of five players that have been left out of Rangers’ pre-season training camp in Spain. The Portuguese centre-back was left at home alongside fellow outcasts Eduardo Herrera, Harry Forrester and Jason Holt, who is understood to be closing in on a move to Fleetwood Town.

The other player left out, Lee Wallace, is recovering from a groin injury.

So the fact that Cardoso has been included in this misfit bunch suggests that he is one of a number of players who has no future at the Scottish Premiership giants.

And, in truth, there is probably no room for him at Ibrox now with Katic and Goldson pushing him further down the pecking order.
