New Besiktas winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou insists that he does not regret making that ill-fated move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2016, while speaking to Sabah.
Just one year after Clinton N’Jie arrived in North London from Marseille, Spurs returned to France to sign another highly-rated winger from the Stade Velodrome.
But, like N’Jie, Nkoudou rapidly fell out of favour after finally sealing a protracted £9.6 million move across the channel, according to the Guardian.
In three years, Nkoudou made just 12 Premier League appearances under Mauricio Pochettino, all form the bench, and struggled to make an impression during loan spells at Burnley and Monaco.
Tottenham were only too happy to sell the 24-year-old this summer despite taking a substantial financial hit on a player who joined Besiktas for just £4.5 million, as reported by Goal.
But, if Nkoudou could turn back the clock, would he decide against joining a club who never really gave him a chance to prove his worth?
“I have no regrets about the Tottenham decision,” he said. “I really learned a lot there.
I was 20 when I left (Marseille). I’ve had great experiences with great players. I never gave up when I wasn’t playing. Now I’m starting a new page here (in Turkey).”
Nkoudou certainly had his moments in a Spurs shirt with that glorious assist to set up Harry Winks’s stoppage time winner away at Fulham in January sticking in the mind.
And, on reflection, how could the speedy forward ever really make his mark when each of his Premier League appearances lasted for less than five minutes on average?
