Will Premier League rivals Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur go head-to-head to sign Norway international Sander Berge from the Jupiler League?

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Sander Berge in recent weeks, but his Genk coach believes the midfielder has the talent to play for Spurs’ Premier League rivals Manchester City, in quotes reported by TV2.

Alongside Real Madrid starlet Martin Odegaard, Berge is arguably the biggest talent to emerge out of Norway in the last ten years and he continues to go from strength to strength for Belgian giants Genk.

A dynamic and intelligent midfielder, Berge stood out as Genk won the Jupiler League title this season, making 40 appearances in all competitions.

And a move to the Premier League seems like only a matter of time for a £22.5 million-rated player who held talks about a potential switch to Tottenham Hotspur during the 2018/19 campaign, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

Genk coach Philippe Clement has no doubts that Berge has the talent to play for one of England’s biggest clubs, claiming that he would fit right in under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

“He is one of the players who can go to top clubs in Europe such as Manchester City and Barcelona. I am convinced that he will be a top, top player in Europe,” Clement told TV2.

Manchester City need a deep-lying play-maker like Berge to replace the ageing Fernandinho so perhaps Guardiola and co should take note of Clement’s comments. Tottenham, meanwhile, still have a Mousa Dembele-shaped void that they need to fill in the centre of the park.
