Premier League outfit Spurs and Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are two of the clubs linked with Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.
It takes a special goalkeeping talent to make your debut between the sticks at the age of 16. Gianluigi Donarumma did it, Alban Lafont did it and now Gavin Bazunu has done it.
The Shamrock Rovers starlet is quickly establishing himself as his club’s number one, ousting the experienced Northern Ireland international Alan Mannus along the way. No wonder some of the biggest clubs from across the Irish sea are interested.
The Independent state that Tottenham Hotspur have made a bid of £180,000 for a player who won’t even finish his school exams until next year.
And, to add to his burgeoning reputation, Bazunu has been named the Airtricity Player of the Month award for July.
“There were lots of great players in contention, including my team-mate Dylan Watts, so to be voted number one is brilliant,” he told Dublin Live.
“I’ve been in with the first-team squad all season but had no idea that the opportunity to play would come along so soon for me.
“Rovers is everything to me and I just want to keep working hard, do my Leaving Certificate next year and be the best footballer that I can be.”
Bazunu has made six first-team appearances so far and only conceded twice, both coming in the Europa League qualifiers against AIK. And it remains to be seen where he makes the next step in a hugely promising career with Spurs a potential destination.
