Sheffield Wednesday sealed a 2-0 Championship win away at Huddersfield Town in Garry Monk’s first game in charge of the Owls.

Garry Monk is revelling in a dream start to life at Sheffield Wednesday manager and paid tribute to centre-backs Julian Borner and Dominic Iorfa after they provided the platform for an impressive 2-0 win away at Huddersfield Town on Sunday, while speaking to the Star.
It was a battle of the new managers at the John Smith’s Stadium. After dragging Lincoln City from non-league to the third tier, via a famous run to the FA Cup quarter-finals, Danny Cowley was handed the reigns to struggling Huddersfield Town but his first game in charge of The Terriers ended in defeat.
Cowley’s frustration was Monk’s relief however. The 40-year-old led Wednesday out for the first time in Yorkshire and he had a win to celebrate on his Owls debut with Steven Fletcher and Sam Winnall securing a 2-0 victory.
But, while the strikers dominated the post-game headlines, the former Leeds and Middlesbrough boss was keen to point out two key performances at the other end of the pitch.
“I thought the two centre-halves Julian [Borner] and Dominic [Iorfa] were fantastic and dealt with things well,” Monk said.

Iorfa, a £500,000 signing from Wolves in January (Sky), hasn’t exactly been convincing since he moved to Hillsborough eight months ago but this was one of his best performances in Wednesday colours.
Borner, meanwhile, has shone since he arrived from Armenia Bielefeld. And if he can Iorfa can build on this display, there’s no reason why they cannot be the backbone of a play-off challenge.
