Premier League outfit Crystal Palace reportedly made a £23m bid for CSKA Moscow striker Fyodor Chalov on transfer deadline day.
The agent of Fyodor Chalov has seemingly confirmed why the striker didn’t end up at Crystal Palace, telling Championat that CSKA Moscow rejected a ‘significant’ bid in the final few hours of the transfer window.
It is fair to say it was a mixed summer for Crystal Palace.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka went, Wilfried Zaha stayed and Roy Hodgson failed to bring in a single new striker, leaving Christian Benteke, Jordan Ayew and Connor Wickham as their centre-forward options.
Yet this was not for a lack of trying.
According to Sky Sports (9.53am), the Eagles made a £23 million bid for Chalov on deadline day but, at the 5:00pm cut-off, no deal was announced.
And the 21-year-old’s agent has just shed light on a frustrating situation for Palace supporters.
“Fyodor is one of the most striking football players in Europe, and the increased interest in him is completely justified. Especially from the side of one Premier League club (Crystal Palace), which made a significant offer, but CSKA refused to sell the player,” Christian Emile told Championat, who claim that only a bid of £26 million would have resulted in a move.
“The position of CSKA is completely understandable – they have serious goals, and Fyodor is the most important player for them.”
Chalov won the Golden Boot with 15 goals in the league last season and, if CKSA want to wrestle back the title from Zenit St Petersburg, they have no choice but to hang onto arguably the most gifted Russian striker in the world right now.
But that doesn’t help Crystal Palace one jot.
