Robbie Gotts was superb in an unfamiliar right-back role as Championship giants Leeds United battered Tadcaster Albion 5-1 in pre-season.

Robbie Gotts looked more like a seasoned centre-forward than a 19-year-old full-back when the ball arrived at his feet inside the penalty area during Wednesday night’s friendly clash with Tadcaster Albion.
Instead of snatching at Leif Davis’ perfectly weighted pull-back and wildly swiping the ball over the bar, the teenager controlled the ball effortlessly, switched it onto his right-foot and curled it with class and precision into the far corner.
Though Gotts, who lined up in an unfamiliar right-back role, doesn’t often play in defence and you could forgive the youngster for letting instinct get the better of him with Davis looking for a man to pick out in the penalty area.

He spent most of last season playing in central midfield for the U23s after all but, with Leeds a little short of options at full-back, you can guarantee that the coaching staff will be thrilled to see how comfortably he adapted to his new role on Wednesday, linking up effectively with Helder Costa while providing plenty of energy on the flanks – not to mention a goal threat.
Gotts wasn’t the Man of the Match in the 5-1 win, that honour went to hat-trick hero Ryan Edmondson, but this display might just have catapulted him into Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team plans.
