Nottingham Forest were linked with Espanyol goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez but now Premier League newcomers Fulham reportedly want the La Liga stopper.
Fulham are looking for a new goalkeeper to challenge Marcus Bettinelli after David Button left for Brighton on Monday.
And claims from Spanish publication La Contra Deportivo state that the Cottagers are ready to offer Espanyol around £1.3 million for the experienced Roberto Jimenez.
It is understood that the Catalan club are hoping to reduce their wage bill this summer so could be happy to get the 32-year-old off the books. Allegedly £1.3 million would be a fee that would tempt Espanyol into a sale.
And, interestingly, the report adds that Fulham plan to make Roberto their number one goalkeeper, relegating Bettinelli to a back-up role. A 6ft 3ins shot-stopper whose reflexes remain as impressive as ever despite his advancing years, the Spaniard would certainly be an astute addition for such a low fee.
Roberto was linked with a move to ambitious Championship outfit Nottingham Forest earlier in the window by SDNA. But, since then, Forest have brought last season’s loanee Costel Pantilimon back on a permanent basis and are expected to sign Benfica’s Portuguese shot-stopper Bruno Varela, according to Record.
Therefore, with Forest seemingly looking elsewhere, it seems that Fulham have been left completely free to negotiate a deal for the former Benfica, Olympiakos and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Roberto.
