Glasgow Rangers are reportedly battling Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt for Rennes’ Ligue 1 defender Edson Mexer.

It seemed only a matter of time before Edson Mexer signed for Rangers.
Rennes’ Coupe de France winning centre-back appears to have emerged as the club’s number one target with his contract due to expire in July. And, after being snapped with Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, the Daily Record reported that he was due to travel to Glasgow on Sunday to watch the Old Firm derby clash with Celtic.
But now is not the time to get complacent. Nothing is agreed yet, after all, and Mexer might just have been handed a better offer.
According to the Scottish Sun, the 30-year-old has a three-year contract on the table from Rangers but he is also on the radar of Eintracht Frankfurt, who just happen to be one of the most exciting teams in European football right now.
Adi Hutter’s side have taken the Bundesliga by storm this season, their three-pronged attack of Sebastien Haller, Luka Jovic and Ante Rebic combining in scintillating fashion to fire Frankfurt into the Europa League semi-finals.

As it stands, Champions League football will be coming to the Commerzbank Arena. Even if they lose against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tonight, Frankfurt are fourth in the Bundesliga table and well placed to qualify for Europe’s premier club competition.
The size of Rangers’ task has just become considerably larger.
