Odsonne Edouard can’t stop scoring for Scottish Premiership champions Celtic and he was brilliant for France’s U21s against the Czech Republic too.
France U21 coach Sylain Ripoll has praised Odsonne Edouard after the in-form Celtic striker scored two brilliant individual goals in a 3-1 win against Czech Republic on Monday night, speaking to the FFC’s official YouTube channel.
The Hoops’ £9 million record signing is in the form of his life. Edouard has six goals and five assists already in 2019/20 and, after opening the scoring in last week’s Old Firm derby victory away at Rangers, the former PSG starlet has taken his irrepressible club displays onto the international stage.
Edouard had never played for France at U21 level before last week but, thanks to braces in successive games against Albania and the Czech Republic, he now has four goals in two matches for Les Espoirs.
The 21-year-old bamboozled the visiting defence with a shimmy of the hips to slam home an opener before repeating the trick in the second half, planting a perfectly placed shot into the far corner after putting an unsuspecting defender on the turf.
And Ripoll was thrilled to see Edouard make the step up to U21 level with ease, pointing out that the Hoops starlet’s rapid rise had given him another option in attack.
“Odsonne confirmed his talent (against the Czech Republic),” said the former Lorient midfielder. “We have options at that level (at centre-forward).”
With Moussa Dembele graduating from France U21 duty after this summer’s European Championships in Italy, the door has swung open for Edouard to establish himself as his country’s new number one striker.
And he could hardly have made a better first impression.
