The talented goalkeeper arrived from Port Vale on Monday as he looks to challenge for the number one position at Rangers.
Jak Alnwick might not have always convinced with his hands during his short-lived spell between the sticks at Newcastle United, but former Rangers youngster Gregg Wylde is confident the goalkeeper’s footwork will catch Mark Warburton’s eye, the Daily Record reports.
The 23-year-old completed his move from League One side Port Vale on Monday as veteran shot-stopper Matt Gilks departed for Wigan Athletic, meaning Alnwick will now challenge Wes Foderingham for the number one spot in Warburton’s starting XI.
This represents a second chance for Alnwick to shine at one of Britain’s most illustrious clubs after he failed to make the grade at Newcastle due to a series of fumbles, most notably in the 4-0 League Cup quarter-final defeat to Tottenham.

However, Wylde, whose Millwall side were defeated by an Alnwick-inspired Vale earlier in the season, believes the goalkeeper’s excellent composure in possession means he is a perfect fit for Warburton’s passing philosophy.
‘He has an aura’; Former manager’s praise shows 23-year-old deserves Rangers chance
“What stood out about him was just how much he likes to play with the ball at his feet,” the former Gers winger told the Daily Record.
“Port Vale are a team who like to play out from the back and Warburton uses the same approach at Rangers.
“He was brilliant against us. I remember our boys being impressed and talking about his display after the game.

“Rangers supporters will enjoy watching him with the ball at his feet. He could shell the thing for miles and also pick out passes from close range.”
Nottingham Forest reportedly target huge transfer coup; but he’d be better off at Rangers
Former Swindon keeper Foderingham has only been praised for his excellent distribution since moving to Ibrox and, thanks to his modern skill-set, Alnwick should feel right at home in Warburton’s pretty passing blueprint.
