Championship outfit Nottingham Forest released Michael Mancienne in the summer and he’s hardly earning his money with New England Revolution.

Michael Mancienne claimed that he simply couldn’t turn down the chance to sign for New England Revolution after seeing the final year of his contract cancelled by Nottingham Forest, as reported by The Post.

But the contract on offer surely influenced Mancienne’s decision to turn down offers to stay in England.

According to the Boston Globe, the former England U21 captain is earning a yearly salary of around £980,000 at the Revolution – which makes him the highest paid defender anywhere in the MLS right now.

But is he justifying his hefty contract in New England? At the moment, probably not.

The Revs are currently in eighth place in the 11-team Eastern Conference. Mancienne has started nine MLS games so far but his side have conceded 16 games in that time – including four in a 4-1 thrashing at Real Salt Lake on Friday.

And it’s fair to say the Revs supporters were not too impressed by Mancienne’s display.

Former Aston Villa, Blackburn and Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel is currently the head coach of the New England Revolution and his first spell in management might not last too much longer as long as Mancienne continues to look like a drain on resources.
