Matt Doherty has scored three Premier League goals already this season for Wolverhampton Wanderers, all from right wing-back.

If anyone is looking for a Fantasy Football bargain in the New Year, Matt Doherty is your man.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers right-back remains one of the most underrated footballers in the Premier League despite an outstanding debut season in the top flight, somehow going under the radar despite scoring three goals and setting up three more.

And, while Wolves have pulled of some hugely impressive big-money signings in recent windows, from Rui Patricio to Ruben Neves, Doherty is one of the club’s best pound-for-pound recruits in living memory.

As reported by the Irish Independent, the swashbuckling full-back cost just £80,000 when he moved from Bohemians in 2010.

And Pat Fenlon, the manager who gave Doherty his chance at Bohemians, is loving watching his former player go from strength to strength – and believes his transfer value has skyrocketed this season.

“Matt is so highly-rated I can’t see him leaving for less than £15million if they ever sold him, and with the money in the Premier League now, he could go for £20million,” Fenlon told the Irish Independent.

“You see the big Premier League clubs paying big money for players who are not proven at that level, Matt is proven at that level and if he keeps improving, people will take note.

“Could Matt handle playing for a bigger club? No question.”

So far, Doherty has remained absent from the gossip columns while some of his more highly-vaunted Molineux teammates, particularly Neves and Diogo Jota, have been linked with big-money moves away.

But the longer Doherty performs like this, he surely cannot continue going under the radar.
