Leeds United let Felix Wiedwald return to the Bundesliga this summer after just one season of Championship football at Elland Road.

Felix Wiedwald would have been hoping for a fresh start after leaving Elland Road this summer.

The goalkeeper endured a difficult debut season at Leeds United, making a string of mistakes and eventually losing his place to untried rookie Bailey Peacock-Farrell in the spring. As such, he was sold in the summer, returning to Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt.

So far, however, Wiedwald has not made an appearance for his new club. Danish international Frederick Ronnow, who also arrived this summer from Brondby, has started all three of Frankfurt’s games in 2018/19 so far.

And Wiedwald might just have dropped to third choice, because last season’s DFB Pokal champions have re-signed the German international Kevin Trapp from Paris Saint-Germain.

Trapp starred in three years at Frankfurt between 2012 and 2015 before joining PSG. And his return will surely see him re-instated as the club’s number one.

The three-time German international might have endured a mixed time in Paris but if he can recapture the form that once made him one of the Bundesliga’s best shot-stoppers then he will be a superb addition to the side.

Wiedwald, then, is arguably in a worse position now than he was during the final few months of his time at Leeds. He now needs to overhaul two international goalkeepers if he is to seize the gloves.
