Simon Dawkins was a regular in the Championship with Derby County but now cannot even get a chance at League One Luton Town.

It is not that long since Simon Dawkins was a regular in the Championship for Derby County.
The winger made 63 Championship appearances for the Rams between 2013 and 2015, scoring seven times for a Derby side that had ambitions of Premier League football under Steve McClaren.
Flash forward to the present day, however, and Dawkins cannot seem to find a new club for love nor money.
The 30-year-old had spent the last few seasons in MLS but was let go by San Jose Earthquakes in February after scoring just five times in 43 games as their Designated Player. He was expected to sign for Minnesota United but, according to MLS Soccer, that move fell through.
And, seven months later, the one-time Derby favourite is still on the free-agent market. The former Tottenham Hotspur youngster was training with Charlton Athletic over the summer without earning a contract and was even turned down by another League One outfit, Luton Town, earlier in September.

“We had a look at him and he did quite well here. It’s just, being brutally honest, he’s no different to what we have,” Hatters manager Nathan Jones told Luton Today.
After the summer arrivals of Mason Mount, Martyn Waghorn and Florian Jozefzoon, there is no reason to suggest that Derby should offer Dawkins another chance at Pride Park.
But this is quite a sad scenario for a player who was targeting Premier League football in Derby colours not so long ago.
