James Forrest has taken his game to a new level since the start of last season.

The long-serving Celtic winger appeared likely to leave while struggling during Brendan Rodgers first campaign in Scottish football in 2016/17. But, with his Hoops future on the line, Forrest responded in style.

The winger scored a career-best 17 goals in all competitions last season and produced ten assists to boot. And that impressive form has continued into the current campaign, with nine goals and 11 assists to his name already across 22 appearances.

Paul Slane, the 26-year-old Clyde midfielder who spent three years alongside Forrest at Celtic between 2010 and 2013, has raved about a player who could claim to be the most fearsome attacker in Scottish football right now.

“(Forrest is) one of the best players in the world. He’s that good,” Slane told the Open Goal Podcast, adding that he should command an eight-figure fee should Celtic ever look to sell.

“(Virgil) Van Dijk went for £12million so I would say £12million. But I think he’s that good, honestly. I think he’s such a special player.”

A number of Celtic’s standout players have made moves south of the border in recent years, such as Van Dijk himself and the likes of Gary Hooper, Ki Sung-Yeung, Stuart Armstrong and Victor Wanyama.

However, Forrest has remained strangely absent from the gossip columns despite his terrific form in Celtic colours over the last 12 months.
