Leeds United are hoping to lure Ben Woodburn to Elland Road from Liverpool but Championship rivals Sunderland, Norwich City and Preston provide competition.

Jurgen Klopp will give Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer permission to leave Anfield on loan in January – providing his temporary employers give him access to regular first-team football.

And there’s no shortage of interest in 18-year-old Kopite Ben Woodburn. According to The Sun, Sunderland, Preston North End and Norwich City are all interested in the teenage striker – but surely Leeds United stand out as the prime destination.

For one, Leeds should be able to give Woodburn a decent run in the side with none of the striker’s currently at Thomas Christiansen’s disposal really doing enough to convince on a regular basis. Fans have started to get on the back of Pierre-Michel Lasogga while Caleb Ekuban and Pawel Cibicki haven’t yet scored a Championship goal.

And unlike Sunderland, Norwich and Preston, who sit 22nd, 15th and ninth, Leeds appear to have a real shot at promotion this season. After a run of five wins in six, they are heading into the final game of the year in fifth place, just five points behind Bristol City in the automatic promotion positions.

Surely honing a winning mentality at Leeds is more beneficial to a future Liverpool star than milling around mid-table or attempting to stave off the spectre of relegation.

The report adds that Sunderland boss Chris Coleman has made Woodburn his top target and you’d understand if the record-breaking wonderkid would be keen on a move to the Stadium of Light.

It was Coleman who handed Woodburn his senior Wales debut in September, the night when he became the youngest goalscorer in his country’s history too when slamming home a stunning winner against Austria.

But with promotion and personal development on the cards at Leeds, Woodburn should be wearing white in 2018.
