The Mirror have reported that Sunderland’s Josh Maja, a 19-year-old striker who has scored 10 League One goals already this season, is on Spurs’ radar – and The Black Cats could apparently find a £6 million bid hard to turn down with the teenager’s contract expiring next summer.
But before committing themselves to going all-out for Maja after the turn of the year, Tottenham should perhaps take a close look at a striker who made his name against Mauricio Pochettino’s side in 2015.
Few had heard of Che Adams before he scored twice for Sheffield United in a 2-2 EFL Cup semi-final draw with Spurs in the 2014/15 season – and with the now Birmingham City forward in the form of his life, his rapid rise should not go unnoticed by those in North London.
Adams has completed his evolution from a waspish winger into a speedy and powerful centre-forward this season, scoring eight times in 14 league starts including a hat-trick against Hull City before the international break.
The Telegraph reports that Stoke City are launching a £5 million bid to reunite Adams with former Blues boss Gary Rowett. But Tottenham’s lower league search should lead them to a player Pochettino already knows well.
