Premier League giants Everton need a new centre-back with West Bromwich Albion captain Jonny Evans on the Goodison Park shortlist.

West Bromwich Albion demanded £20 million for captain Jonny Evans in the January transfer window, a fee that Arsenal and Manchester City were simply unwilling to pay.

Just a few months later, however, it is somewhat inevitable that the Baggies will lose their star centre back in the summer, and for as little as £3 million due to the fact he has a release clause in his contract should West Brom be relegated and, as they are ten points adrift of safety, that is more than likely.

So what an opportunity this is for Everton, then, to solve their defensive problems for a pocket change fee. The Toffees have been linked with a number of centre-halves, with the Mirror claiming that the Northern Irish international Evans is one of those on the club’s shortlist.

With plenty of Premier League experience under his belt, Evans at £3 million would surely be a better addition than, say, Leo Lacroix.

As reported by the Sun, Everton are keen on the Swiss international centre-back and watched him against FC Basel in the recent Champions League round-of-16 win at Manchester City.

Lacroix, who Le Matin claim is open to a move to the Premier League, would cost just £7.5 million, a relatively small fee in today’s market.

But the St Etienne loanee would still cost twice as much as Evans, a defender who has proved himself in England’s top flight and would be the very definition of a low risk addition.
