Celtic are looking to their Scottish Premiership rivals for a new midfielder – John McGinn of Hibernian or Kilmarnock’s Youssouf Mulumbu.

There are a number of positions Celtic seem determined to strengthen this summer. A new goalkeeper is a must, while a centre-half, a left-back or perhaps a striker would not go amiss at Parkhead.
But it seems that the centre of the Hoops midfield is also due a bit of a facelift. And despite fans and pundits alike clamouring for John McGinn’s arrival on the green half of Glasgow, it appears that Celtic have their sights set on another dynamic enforcer earning rave reviews in Scotland’s top flight.

Mulumbu has been a revelation since he arrived at Rugby Park in November following his release from Norwich City. Reuniting with his former West Brom manager Steve Clarke, the Congolese powerhouse has been one of the best players in the country and even scored the winner against Celtic in a 1-0 victory for Kilmarnock back in February.
In truth, it is difficult to see how McGinn, rated at £5 million by his Hibernian boss Neil Lennon according to The Scotsman, would genuinely improve Celtic’s starting XI or offer anything the champions do not currently have.

Mulumbu, on the other hand, would bring vast experience, leadership and some real steel in the centre of the park. It is not difficult to imagine his presence getting the best out of the more creative talents of Tom Rogic, Stuart Armstrong and perhaps even Ryan Christie.
There are not many players in Scotland who would walk into Celtic’s first-team. Mulumbu, however, is one of them.
