Nottingham Forest look likely to bring Michael Dawson back to the City Ground when his contract at Championship rivals Hull City expires.
After 13 years away, Michael Dawson could potentially make an emotional return to Nottingham Forest in the summer.
The former Forest academy star, who left to start a long successful career at Tottenham back in 2005, came very close to signing for his former club in January only for current employers Hull City to block the move at the eleventh hour, as reported by the Hull Daily Mail.
But with Dawson out of contract this summer and free to choose his own destination, it seems only a matter of time before he is pulling on that famous red shirt once again. After all, Aitor Karanka still hopes to bring him to Forest this summer.
Whether he should, however, is another matter. Those Nottingham Forest fans ruled by their head rather than their hearts have already been expressing doubts about the signing of a player who, while popular at the City Ground, is 34 now and has been at the heart of a shaky Hull defence all season long.
And it is not as if Forest do not already have a summer deal lined up for a younger, quicker and frankly better defender. They have the option to sign Sporting Lisbon loanee Tobias Figueiredo for £1.8 million and, considering how impressive the 24-year-old has been since joining in January, this is something of a no-brainer.
Figueiredo has started eight Championship games for Forest and they have kept four clean sheets in that time with a usually error-prone defence looking far sturdier with him at the heart of the back-line.
Forest should put all their effort into signing one centre-back this summer – but it should be Figueiredo, not Dawson.
