Wes Hoolahan continues to weave his magic at the age of 34 – and Rangers should come knocking if he leaves Norwich City.

Speculation is intensifying that Rangers will attempt a summer swoop for Graham Dorrans after newly appointed coach Jonathan Johansson was spotted taking in Norwich’s 3-1 win at Preston last week.

According to the Scottish Sun, the 29-year-old is set to be shown the door by the Carrow Road chiefs and, after netting in that triumph at Deepdale, hasn’t done his chances of a return to Scotland any harm.

Another name on that Norwich team-sheet, however, simply screams off the page. Now, Rangers supporters weren’t exactly enamoured by former manager Mark Warburton turning Ibrox into something of an old folks home for forgotten footballers but, unlike Niko Kranjcar and Philippe Senderos, Wes Hoolahan has proved in a stellar season that time has not diminished his talents.

The 34-year-old has a year left on his contract, but has been tipped to leave at the end of the season. And if a tally of five goals and nine assists is enough alone to explain why he’ll be missed in Anglia, Hoolahan’s sublime displays have a number of Norwich supporters begging for him to stay.

In fact, Hoolahan’s solo effort in October’s 3-1 win against Rotherham United sums up the flash of genius that makes the veteran playmaker a true neutral’s favourite. Via one Cryuff turn and an inspired shimmy to send the visiting defenders in a spin, Hoolahan slotted home a finish that wouldn’t look out of place in a Lionel Messi montage.

And with Rangers facing up to the prospect of potentially losing a number of their most creative talents, from loanee Emerson Hyndman to contract rebel Barrie McKay, Hoolahan could be an inspired short-term solution.

Providing the creativity so often lacking at Ibrox, it’s the perfect time for Hoolahan to return to Scotland at Rangers – more than a decade after leaving Livingston.
