Scottish Premiership giants Celtic reportedly want to sign PSG’s Odsonne Edouard for cheaper than expected, which could see Jack Marriott break a record

If Celtic were to break their 17-year-old transfer record for a striker this summer, it seemed nailed on that the honour would go to Odsonne Edouard.

But the 20-year-old Paris Saint-Germain loanee, who Celtic are allegedly keen to sign on a permanent deal after he hit 11 goals last season, could be cheaper than expected. The Mail states that the powerful striker could join for an initial fee of £5 million, which is less than the Hoops paid for John Hartson and Chris Sutton all the way back in 2001.

Instead, could another striker be the man to make history at Parkhead this summer?

The Scottish Sun reported earlier this month that Celtic have been scouting the prolific Peterborough United forward Jack Marriott, who scored a remarkable 33 goals in all competitions last season and finished the campaign as the most lethal striker in the Football League.

And new claims made by the Sun suggest Peterborough have raised their asking price to £6.5 million with interest in the 23-year-old rising.

Therefore, if Celtic were to meet Peterborough’s demands, Marriott would be the most expensive player in the history of the Scottish Champions, costing £500,000 more than the legendary duo of Sutton and Hartson.

But with Celtic closing in on a deal for Edouard, time will tell whether they will press ahead with their interest in Marriott. In reality, any deal for the Posh striker probably depends on the future of Moussa Dembele.
