Ronald Koeman has reportedly scouted the Ajax skipper in person but Everton could find their perfect squad player in his 21-year-old teammate.
Ronald Koeman knows the Dutch market better than most. While Tottenham Hotsur splashed a huge sum on the ill-fitting Vincent Janssen – the latest in a long line of Eredivisie flops from Alfonso Alves to Mateja Kezman – the current Everton boss was introducing the underrated and under-the-radar Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic to English football.
Therefore, with the Daily Mirror reporting that Koeman has personally scouted Ajax captain and goal-scoring midfielder Davy Klaassen on a number of occasions, Everton fans should trust his judgement.
Klaassen has scored 15 goals in 30 games from midfield and, as a result, is one away from making 2016/17 the most prolific season of his career.
However, if Koeman has personally attended a number of Ajax games this season, it surely won’t have been just the peroxide skipper that has caught the eye.
The former Southampton boss admires versatility and players capable of flitting effortlessly between positions and, with Bryan Oviedo’s January exit leaving Leighton Baines as the club’s only natural left-back, it would be no surprise to see Daley Sinkgraven linked with a move to Goodison Park sooner rather than later.
A neat and tidy central midfielder turned highly intelligent full-back, Sinkgraven has made the left-back position his own under new manager Peter Bosz, offering balance, composure and probing passes in the transition between defence to attack. In fact, he has made every one of his 18 league starts at left-back.
The 21-year-old has also got four assists to his name, the result of honing his trade higher up the pitch.
Therefore, Sinkgraven could offer options in both defence and midfield. If Everton want to push on and balance both domestic and European football, his adaptability could prove invaluable.
