Championship side Nottingham Forest were expected to sign Blackburn Rovers’ Connor Mahoney last summer before he went to Bournemouth instead

Ever since Connor Mahoney arrived at Oakwell on loan from Bournemouth in the January transfer window, Barnsley fans were waiting for a performance like the one he produced on Saturday.
The Tykes secured a vital 2-0 win against Brentford which has massively boosted their hopes of Championship survival ahead of the final game of the season next Sunday. And it is no coincidence that a much-needed three-point haul coincided with Mahoney’s best game for the club.
The winger was in inspired form, ghosting past defenders at will and showing why there was a huge scramble for his signature last summer when his contract at Blackburn Rovers expired.

And, on this evidence, a Nottingham Forest side who could do with a little exuberance and excitement should consider renewing their interest in a player who appeared to be on his way to the City Ground, before Bournemouth snatched him from under their nose.

And, one year on, Forest should renew their interest if Bournemouth are willing to loan the 21-year-old out again. The Championship underachievers drew 0-0 against Bristol City on Saturday, the 12th time they have failed to score in a game since Aitor Karanka took over in January.
Mahoney, then, would be a fine addition if he can keep up this form.
