Jack Rodwell’s career at League One Sunderland finally seems to have come to an end. He’s reportedly in talks with Greek Superleague side Aris

At long, long last, Sunderland might finally have seen the last of Jack Rodwell.

As reported by Sport24, the £10 million outcast is in talks with Greek Superleague outfit Aris over a potential move across the continent. And Sunderland fans could not be happier.

Jack Rodwell of Sunderland tackles Eden Hazard of Chelsea during the Premier League match between Chelsea and Sunderland at Stamford Bridge on May 21, 2017 in London, England.

Big things were expected of Rodwell when he headed up to Wearside from Manchester City in the summer of 2014. The midfield powerhouse might not have made the grade at The Etihad but he was still a player of great promise and an England international to boot.

But if a move to Sunderland was supposed to resurrect Rodwell’s career, it’s fair to say it ended up having the opposite effect.

He made just 42 league starts in four years at the Stadium of Light and managed a grand total of one in the Championship last season as Sunderland went on to suffer successive relegations.

And, to decrease his popularity ever further among the Sunderland supporters, the Independent reported that Rodwell snubbed the club’s offer to cancel his contract in January and let him leave on a free. Instead, the forgotten midfielder stayed and hoovered up his £60,000-a-week wages.
