Fernando Forestieri has been out since August but is closing in on a return for Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday at last.
Finally, Sheffield Wednesday fans have something to smile about.
It has been a dismal season for the Owls and, after successive seasons in the play-offs, they are currently stuck all the way down in 17th place, 21 points adrift of the top six.
It is no coincidence, however, that this nightmare campaign has coincided with the absence of ‘Magic Man’ Fernando Forestieri.
The most naturally gifted player in Wednesday’s squad has not made a Championship appearance since the 1-0 win at Fulham all the way back in August. So the news that Forestieri made his long-awaited return after seven months out in an U23 clash against Coventry City on Monday has unsurprisingly gone down very well with the Hillsborough faithful.
Forestieri marked his return with a goal from the penalty spot and fans will be counting down the minutes until he is lighting up the Steel City with his vision, skill and dribbling once again.
It appears that Wednesday’s season is all but over, but the prospect of seeing this fan favourite in action at long last should at least improve the mood around Hillsborough.
And, if Forestieri has anything to do about it, play-maker Barry Bannan will struggle to get his number ten shirt back.
