Zak Rudden is on fire at Falkirk, but will Glasgow Rangers look to bring him back to Ibrox in the January transfer window?
If a loan spell at Falkirk was designed to help Zak Rudden boost his reputation, it has certainly succeeded.
The Rangers striker has shone since dropping down to the Scottish Championship and took his tally to seven goals in 11 games with a match-winning brace in last week’s 3-2 comeback triumph against Inverness.
Rudden was then named in the SPFL Team of the Week and nominated for the November Goal of the Month award to boot, capping a fantastic few weeks for the Ibrox prospect.
No wonder Falkirk would love to keep the 18-year-old beyond his current loan spell, which ends in January. Although Bairds manager Ray McKinnon has admitted to the Daily Record (live blog, 8.32am) that Rangers could decide to bring Rudden back to Glasgow.
“We would like to hold on to Zak but Rangers might be keen to take him back there for a bit,” said McKinnon, who was appointed in August and made Rudden his first signing.
“He’s scored goals and we’ve given him a really good platform. He’s learning all the time and he’s maturing.”
There may be a gap in Rangers’ first-team plans for Rudden, given that Umar Sadiq could see his loan spell from Roma brought to an end. Alfredo Morelos, meanwhile, was sent off for the third time this season against Aberdeen in midweek, while Kyle Lafferty has not scored a single goal since September.
Gers boss Steven Gerrard could do a lot worse than to consider Rudden.
