Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty has failed to fire since returning to Ibrox from Scottish Premiership rivals Hearts last summer.
It just hasn’t worked out for Kyle Lafferty in his second spell at Rangers.
The Northern Ireland international made an emotional return to Ibrox in August for a fee of £500,000, six years after he jumped ship following their demotion to the bottom tier of Scottish football (Glasgow Evening Times).
But the form that saw Lafferty score 19 times for Hearts last season has deserted him in Glasgow. In 20 league games, the veteran has scored just four times, with his most recent strike coming against St Johnstone in September – 14 matches ago.
The fact that Fabio Cardoso, a centre-back sold by Rangers last summer, has scored more this season sums it up.
After one forgettable season at Ibrox, the Portuguese defender saw his contract terminated in July and he quickly returned home with Santa Clara.
Cardoso has since developed into an unlikely source of goals for the Primeira Liga outfit, scoring five times so far. To rub salt into the wounds, his five goals have come in just 19 games – one fewer than Lafferty has played under Steven Gerrard in the Scottish Premiership.
It is too early to write off Lafferty but these statistics do not paint a pretty picture.
