Brendan Rodgers has worked with Borini at three different clubs and reportedly tried to bring him to the Scottish Premiership in 2017.

Just a year-and-a-half after his eye-catching switch from Sunderland to AC Milan, it seems that Fabio Borini’s time at the San Siro is coming to an end.
The versatile Italian might have been a key player initially under Vincenzo Montella but current Milan coach Genaro Gattuso is clearly not a big fan. Borini has started just three Serie A games all season and just three of the Rossoneri’s Europa League fixtures too.
As a result, Tuttomercatoweb reports that a January exit is on the cards with Newcastle United apparently interested in bringing the former Liverpool and Chelsea forward back to the North East.
But will Borini’s new-found availability be noticed north of the border too? Brendan Rodgers is clearly a big fan after all.

He worked with Borini in Chelsea’s academy, signed him on loan for Swansea and paid £11 million to bring him to Liverpool seven years ago (BBC). Interestingly enough, Gianluca Di Marzio claimed at the end of Borini’s Sunderland spell that Rodgers would have paid £6 million to reunite with the forward once again at Celtic.
And with The Hoops targeting a new striker in January, as reported by The Mail, it would hardly be a surprise if Celtic entered the race.
