Premier League West Ham United are reportedly leading the chase to sign Ivorian midfielder Jean-Michel Seri after landing Lukas Fabianski and Issa Diop

West Ham United fans wanted to see some ambition this summer and they’re seeing it. And should The Hammers pull off a shock deal for Jean Michel Seri, they could suddenly boast one of the strongest spines in the Premier League.

Tuttomercatoweb reported on Wednesday that West Ham are leading the chase for the £35 million Nice playmaker ahead of Napoli.

And before West Ham fans scoff at these reports, consider that Napoli are close to signing Real Betis’ Fabian Ruiz, who appears to be every inch an alternative to Ivorian international Seri.

Seri has been one of the best midfielders in France over the last two seasons, earning the admiration of numerous European giants such as Barcelona, PSG and Chelsea. Needless to say the pass-master would be an upgrade on everybody else in West Ham’s midfield.

And this appears to be the theme of West Ham’s business so far – upgrades.

Issa Diop, the £25 million record signing, should massively improve the Premier League’s leakiest defence from 2017/18. Toulouse captain at 20, Diop has the potential to reach the very top and he could be a world away from James Collins.

And Lukas Fabianski, who joined from Swansea for £7 million, is a better goalkeeper than either Adrian or the modern-day Joe Hart.

If Seri arrives, West Ham would be one lethal centre-forward away from a whole new spine – one that most Premier League clubs would love to have.
