It seems that Everton will put their effort into signing a PSV winger at the end of this season.

Back in December, speculation intensified that the Toffees were going to make a move for the Mexican international Hirving Lozano, who has been a revelation in the Eredivisie following his summer move from Pachuca.

Super Deportivo even reported that Everton were willing to pay £42 million to bring Lozano to Goodison Park.

But ESPN reported on Wednesday that there is now another PSV winger on Everton’s radar – Steven Bergwijn.

It is understood that PSV are bracing themselves for offers for the jet-heeled academy graduate as the Premier League looks like his next destination with Tottenham keen as well. And Bergwijn certainly fits the profile for Everton as they aim to bring young, hungry talent to the blue half of Merseyside.

But would Everton be making a mistake prioritising Bergwijn over Lozano?

Yes, the former is one of the most exciting young wingers in European football and he looks set to win his first call up for the senior Dutch side sooner rather than later. In 23 Eredivisie games, Bergwijn has five goals and four assists and netted one of the strikes of the season with a Lionel Messi-esque solo finish against Utrecht.

But he is a raw talent and, in comparison to Lozano, his end product leaves a lot to be desired.

In fact, Lozano has been the best player in Holland this season and, with 13 goals in 21 games, is the league’s top scorer despite playing out on the wing. With a further six assists to his name, Lozano is the main reason why PSV are seven points clear at the top.
