If Everton replace Sam Allardyce this summer are reports linking them with Luis Enrique and Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone unrealistic?
Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri wants to replace Sam Allardyce as manager this summer, according to the Daily Star.
Moshiri has been less than impressed with results and performances since Allardyce took charge from Ronald Koeman at the end of October and wants a new long-term approach under a different boss.
Marco Silva was the favourite but has fallen down the pecking order after being sacked by Watford, with Shakhtar Donetsk’s Paulo Fonseca now the number one choice and Luis Enrique and Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid considered outsiders.
Who can they get?
Fonseca appears to be a realistic target, but are the Toffees kidding themselves if they think Enrique or Simeone would make the move to Goodison Park?
The former has been heavily linked with Chelsea having been out of a job since leaving Barcelona at the end of last season, although the Telegraph reports the Spaniard may cost too much with wage demands of £16.5m a year. If that is too expensive for the Blues surely the Merseysiders don’t stand a chance?
Simeone, meanwhile, only signed a new two-year deal at Atleti in September to extend his stay until 2020 and with La Liga title challenge on and regular Champions League qualification, why would the Argentine leave for a club knocked out of the Europa League at the group stage this term?
