Watford have made it clear that they have no intention of letting manager Marco Silva leave to take over at Everton.

Head coach Ronald Koeman of Everton is seen during a preseason friendly match between FC Twente and Everton FC at Sportpark de Stockakker on July 19, 2017 in De Lutte, Netherlands.

It is now almost a month since Everton swung the axe on Ronald Koeman. But it appears we are no nearer to finding out who will replace the Dutchman at Goodison Park.

Via a strange and unfortunate series of events, current caretaker David Unsworth looks most likely to get the nod, even if the Toffees have won just one of his five games in charge of the first-team in the last few weeks.

Though the fact Unsworth now appears to be the front-runner is more a reflection of the fact that Everton’s top choices are seemingly unwilling to take the role.

One man who does appear to be keen, however, is Marco Silva. Sky Sports reported on Sunday that the 40-year-old would be interested in taking over at Goodison Park but his current employers, Watford, are unwilling to sanction his departure just a few months into a two-year contract.

Sky reports that Watford have rejected Everton’s approach and, with no break clause in Silva’s contract, will entertain any further offers no matter what price the Toffees are willing to put on the table.

Portuguese publication O Jogo, however, has reported on Monday morning that Everton still harbour hopes of bringing Silva to Merseyside even though Watford have made it perfectly clear that they are not interested in negotiating.

But with the former Hull City boss remaining professional and seemingly unwilling to force an exit, it appears that the Toffees are fighting a losing battle.
