Nottingham Forest need a goalkeeper and Everton’s seldom-seen shot-stopper Joel Robles is on the Championship side’s radar.

Jordan Pickford of Everton reacts during the Premier League match between Everton and Watford at Goodison Park on November 5, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Jordan Pickford has not had the easiest start to his Everton career but, with the Toffees’ defence frequently falling apart around him, it is a credit to the former Sunderland ‘keeper that he has only managed to enhance his reputation so far.

In fact, Pickford has been so impressive that back-up stoppers Maarten Stekelenburg and Joel Robles have made just five appearances between them all season.

And with Everton aiming to add another understudy to their ranks in January, it appears that one of the two will have to make way. According to The Mirror’s live transfer blog (20th December, 5.24pm), the Toffees are interested in bringing in Malaga’s experienced shot-stopper Roberto in January for just £1million.

Roberto is on loan at Malaga from Espanyol but it is presumed his clause contains a break clause which would allow Everton to do the deal.

And Nottingham Forest should have a vested interest in this rarest of cut-price Premier League deals. Because the Nottingham Post stated recently that the shot-stopper seeking Championship side were still interested in signing Everton’s Joel, having attempted to bring the Spaniard to the City Ground in the summer.

A new number one is Forest manager Mark Warburton’s top priority and, although Joel has barely featured for Everton this season, he would be an excellent addition at Championship level.

And with just a few months remaining on his contract, the arrival of Roberto at Goodison Park could be the cue for Joel to leave Merseyside and head to Nottingham.
