Premier League duo Everton and Crystal Palace have both been linked with Roma’s Serie A midfielder and France international Maxime Gonalons.

There are two Premier League clubs being heavily linked with Roma midfielder Maxime Gonalons. But who will the eight-time France international pick – Everton or Crystal Palace?

According to Sky Sports last week, Palace made an £8.9 million bid to sign the former Lyon captain, while Calciomercato stated that Everton were interested too. It is expected that Gonalons will be allowed to leave Roma after just 12 Serie A starts, with the capital club aiming to sign either Steven N’Zonzi or Tanguy Ndombele.

But latest reports in The Mirror (30 July, page 50) suggest that Everton could have a potential advantage.

Because it is reported that Palace only see Gonalons as a back-up option should their £10 million move for West Ham powerhouse Chiekhou Kouyate fail. Palace are allegedly confident that the Senegal international wants to swap the London Stadium for Selhurst Park.

So with a deal for Kouyate up in the air for now, Everton have a chance to swoop in and nab Gonalons while Palace are tied up in other deals.

The 29-year-old would add experience to an Everton side who have already lost Wayne Rooney, look set to sell Ashley Williams and appear ready to phase out both Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka with younger players being targeted.
