Mo Besic has been superb since joining Championship side Middlesbrough on loan – does he have a future in the Premier League with Everton?

Everton looked to have pulled off a real coup when they lured Mo Besic to Goodison Park from Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros in the summer of 2014.

The tough-tackling midfielder had been one of the breakthrough stars at the Brazil World Cup with his eye-catching displays for Bosnia and, at just £4 million according to the Liverpool Echo, looked a real snip of a signing.

But it is only now, almost four years on, that we are seeing the best of Besic. After a relentless series of injuries that saw him tumble down the pecking order at Everton, the 25-year-old was offered a lifeline via a loan spell at Middlesbrough in January, and dropping down to the Championship for a short-term could be a decision that kick-starts his career.

Besic has been superb in his six games for Tony Pulis’ side, helping them into play-off contention with another terrific display in Saturday’s 3-1 win against Barnsley.

And if any Everton fans are reading this, they should take note of what the former Boro midfielder Neil Maddison said about the Riverside fans’ favourite.

“He’s come in, he’s had a run of games here and he’s been absolutely superb for us,” Maddison told the Gazette Live.

What a player he is. He’s irreplaceable.”

If Besic can keep up this excellent form, and most importantly stay clear of injuries, there is no reason to believe he cannot force his way into Everton’s starting XI next season.

After all, Morgan Schneiderlin has struggled badly at times and a partnership of Besic and the equally energetic Idrissa Gana Gueye could go some way to solving Everton’s penchant for conceding soft goals.
