Everton are once again dragging their feet in the transfer market with their opening bid for Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford bordering on insulting.

Sunderland's Jordan Pickford celebrates their first goal

After missing out on countless top targets last summer, you would think Everton would be determined to get their business done and dusted as early as possible this time around.

Think again.

While recently relegated Sunderland placing a £30million price tag on the head of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford appears ambitious in the extreme, Everton’s opening offer is nothing short of derisory.

According to The Sun, the Toffees have bid just £8million for arguably English football’s most exciting young shot-stopper. Understandably, Sunderland are unwilling to consider such an offer for their prized asset.

Consequently, Everton fans have a few questions. Namely, why the club still appear to be adopting a skinflint approach to the transfer market despite billionaire majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri ushering in a new era of financial muscle.

Everton are no longer operating on Bill Kenwright’s shoestring budget after all.

And if the Toffees are serious about gatecrashing the top four next season, can they really afford to let a number of Premier League rivals steal a march on their top target by failing to offer even a third of his asking price?

The Sun add that Newcastle and West Ham are also keen on the Sunderland’s homegrown hero. And they will not wait around while Everton drag their feet.
