Sandro Ramirez has escaped his Goodison Park nightmare, leaving Everton for La Liga side Sevilla on a loan deal until the end of the season.
It says a lot about the mess that Everton have become that Sandro Ramirez is already making it clear that he has no desire to ever return to Goodison Park.
The 22-year-old returned to La Liga with Sevilla on loan until the end of the season last month and, in quotes reported by Fichajes, admitted “I’ve been here two weeks and I want to continue next season at Sevilla.”
Sandro arrived on Merseyside amid big expectations in the summer once Everton had triggered the £5.25 million release clause in his contract, as reported by Sky Sports. The Spanish under-21 ace had netted 14 La Liga goals for Malaga in 2016/17 and appeared to be the instinctive finisher required to compensate for the loss of Romelu Lukaku.
But in six months at Everton, Sandro managed just eight Premier League appearances, and no goals, under three different managers. He did not make a single start under current incumbent Sam Allardyce.
And it speaks volumes about the disillusion on the Goodison Park terraces that Everton fans do not blame Sandro for wanting to escape for good.
The supporters have had to watch their team stutter and stumble through a season that had promised so much with a number of their summer signings, Sandro, Davy Klaassen and Nikola Vlasic in particular, rapidly fading into the background with evidence of any long-term plan all but disappeared.
