It is fair to say the now sacked West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis is not the man Everton fans are dreaming of.
With Everton still on the lookout for a new manager and Tony Pulis suddenly becoming available, it seems inevitable that someone, somewhere, will attempt to put two and two together.
But it is fair to say that the only reason Everton would consider the arch-pragmatist Pulis is if they wanted to out-do West Ham in the underwhelming managerial appointment stakes.
The 58-year-old’s departure from The Hawthorns was simply unavoidable after Saturday’s 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Chelsea made it just two wins in 21 games for a manager renowned for his ability to grind out results – usually at the expense of anything resembling flowing football.
But such is the uncertainty around Goodison Park right now that a number of Everton supporters are genuinely concerned that Pulis’s name could appear in the betting markets in the very near future.
After all, they have already been linked with Sam Allardyce, perhaps the only Premier League manager of the last decade who is more frequently accused of betraying the principles of our ‘beautiful game’.
But on the back of such a horror run, you could not even claim that Pulis would make an Everton side sitting 16th with the league’s second worst defensive record ‘hard to beat’ anymore.
And you can see why many Everton fans are not exactly excited by the news that Pulis is suddenly back on the job market.
