£30m centre-back Michael Keane has been a disaster at Goodison Park – fortunately Premier League giants Everton are welcoming Ramiro Funes Mori back.

Ramiro Funes Mori of Everton looks on during the Premier League 2 match between Arsenal and Everton at Meadow Park on February 5, 2018 in Borehamwood, England.

Both club and country are counting down the days until Ramiro Funes Mori returns from an injury that has kept him out of the entire season so far.

The centre-half has been badly missed by Everton, with even the arch pragmatism of Sam Allardyce seemingly unable to organise a defence that looked so error-prone under both Ronald Koeman and David Unsworth.

The Toffees have conceded 49 Premier League goals this season – only West Ham, Huddersfield Town and Stoke City have let in more.

No wonder the Everton fans are thrilled about the fact that Funes Mori came through an impressive 70 minutes unscathed in an U23 win against Swansea City on Monday night.

It seems Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli will be pleased too, having included the former River Plate defender, who cost Everton £9.5 million in 2015, in his squad for the upcoming international break.

But the fact that Everton fans appear to be pinning their hopes on a player who is not exactly the most consistent or reliable of centre-backs shows just how bad they have been at the back in recent weeks.

None more so than the under-fire Michael Keane. A £30 million summer signing from Burnley, it is fair to say the England international has not lived up to his price-tag.

The Mirror stated that Everton are looking to cash in already and will perhaps sell Keane on a cut-price deal and his performance in the 2-1 defeat to Burnley on Saturday, where he was caught out for both goals, will not have changed any minds at Goodison Park.

Keane looks like a lost cause at the moment – no wonder fans are counting down the days until Funes Mori comes back.
