La Liga champions Barcelona need a new left-back after selling Lucas Digne to Everton and reportedly want to raid Liverpool again.
Barcelona did well to make £18 million by selling their seldom-seen, understudy left-back Lucas Digne to Everton over the summer.
The downside of the Frenchman’s move to Merseyside, however, is that Jordi Alba is not the only natural left-back in Ernesto Valverde’s squad; something that Barcelona are planning to put right in the January transfer window.
Mundo Deportivo claims that Barca are scouring the market for potential signings. And it is claimed that another Liverpool player could follow Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho to the Camp Nou.
Unlike the South American superstars, however, Alberto Moreno is far from a favourite at Anfield. The 26-year-old lost his place to Andrew Robertson after an error-strewn debut season in England, culminating in a dreadful second-half display in Liverpool’s Europa League final defeat to Sevilla in 2016.
Moreno made just 14 Premier League starts in 2017/18 and none so far this season. But the swashbuckling left-back did impress in La Liga with Sevilla before his £12 million departure four years ago.
Moreno will be a free agent at the end of the season and Liverpool could be tempted to sell him for a knock-down fee in January. But it is somewhat ironic that one of Everton’s most impressive summer deals could help the Reds to get rid of one of their biggest flops of recent seasons.
Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal and Atletico Madrid’s Felipe Luis are also understood to be on Barcelona’s radar.
